Day 1 of the second test between India and South Africa was just terrific.What made it so special was the fact that the day had just everything.The visitors won the toss and elected to bat first.Eden Gardens,Kolkata hosted a test after a long time,and it is definitely among the best in India.SA batted first and skipper Smith was out early to Zaheer again.However,in form Amla joined in with debutant Alviro Petersen,and they were just brillant.Amla continued his tremendous form.India's bowling wasn't pathetic or something,it was just that the two batsmen outplayed the attack with some luck and great determination.Ishant Sharma and Zaheer Khan bowled their heart out,but it really wasn't enough.his partnership lasted for over 200 runs.
However,the session that was really the twist provider,was the 3rd session after tea.SA went from 228/2 losing 7 for 38 runs to a mere 266/9.Harbhajan Singh had done it again at his lucky ground.He picked up 3 wickets as Zaheer got 3 as well,and changed the whole scenario.This is the real fun of test cricket.One bad session and the match takes a new shape.It was amazing to see.India desperately needed these wickets because they were missing services off Gautam Gambhir and Rahul Dravid.India to retain their No.1 ranking have to win this game.With the way the match started,it didn't seem likely,but now,this match is wide open,this series is wide open and so is the No.1 spot in Tests.
