Minnows aren't exactly minnow anymore

Its great to see some teams who have been considered minnows for a long time fighting and giving competition to teams like India and England.I was very happy to see Bangladesh batting, because they had so much determination even though they lost the 1st test.In the 1st innings, almost every top order batsmen tried to spend time on the crease. They might not have been very successful, but intent is what really matters. The second innings was even better, with opener Tamim Iqbal scoring a superbly made century. Many cricketers believe he is the next big thing for Bangladesh.I have to admit,he is impressive.I remember how well he played against India in 2007 WC match. He just needs to be consistent and determined. If he loses his consistency, then he would end up being yet another Mohammad Ashraful. Both Iqbal and Ashraful are talented players who Bangladesh need if they want to beat big teams on a regular basis.Geoff Boycott had apparently said on TV that Bangladesh shouldn't be allowed to play test cricket and this was seen by Iqbal a day before he went on to make a ton at Lord's.Great to see such determination from young talents like Iqbal who want to prove a point or two to everyone.Kudos to Bangladesh, and I hope they win atleast 1 test as a reward for their spirit.
Zimbabwe is another similar team.Inspite of the getting off to a bad start with skipper Elton Chigumbura bowling two bad overs full of wides, they fought back and restricted the indian batsmen too 285.One would think, knowing Zimbabwe, they would not be able to chase this down. However, some very sensible batting by top 4 made sure the target looked like 260 and not 310.Every batsmen made a decent contribution, however,Craig Ervine and Brendon Taylor were the big stars.Taylor set up the right platform and Ervine along with others finished it up.The series is becoming interesting with each team with one win out of two games now.Lets see how it goes.

  1. Hello FH great post, Zimbabwe are a precious little team and I hope they can push through in the next years, countries should invite them and support them, they won't go down without a fight!
Bangladesh are slowly but steadily improving especially in terms of batting, and I hope that travelling will improve their bowling, and Shakib will not burn out. Thanks for blogrolling me, consider yourself blogrolled as well :)

    Cheers,
