Praveen Kumar:Left high and dry

Recently,I read an article(on tcwj.blogspot.com)about how Praveen Kumar has been denied a test spot.To be frank,I didn't give it any thought myself about the same before reading this article.Praveen seems to have gone unnoticed in spite of having a good stint in ODIs.

Recently,Suresh Raina made his debut after playing 98 ODIs.That to me,didn't seem weird because the middle order has been very solid and there obviously was no way that he found a way past the big 4 of indian batsmen. But,the bowling attack on many occasions has looked weak and incomplete.Yet,the seamer from Uttar Pradesh has been neglected from even making a test debut. In 44 ODIs he has played,he has taken 55 wickets at an average of 31 runs per wicket, while strike rate of 37.His statistics are good enough to earn him a test spot, but players with far lesser experience of international cricket like Abhimanyu Mithun have been picked before him.

Besides the statistics,Praveen Kumar is among the few bowlers that India have, who can swing the ball both ways and has good control over it.He might not have the weapon of lethal pace, but good lines and control has got him success in Australia '07 as well as the recent Sri Lanka tour.Even in IPL,this lad has been very impressive and I see no reason why he shouldn't be picked in the Test team.I have no doubt what so ever, that he is way better than Mithun as well as Munaf Patel.Having opened the batting on occasions for his Ranji team,Praveen is no mug with the bat either. He could be a useful contributor lower down the order at number 8.

Here's hoping PK gets his much deserved test cap soon and swings India to victory.
